All along the coasts of Africa there are great seaside destinations for beach holidays. The most popular are found in northern Africa along the Mediterranean coast, where Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt each year attract many holiday makers; and those found along the eastern coasts towards the Indian Ocean as well as Islands off the eastern coasts such as Mauritius and the Seychelles.
The west coast of Africa, towards the Atlantic Ocean also has some great beaches, but the tourist infrastructure is not well developed, so these beaches are not that popular tourist destinations, maybe with the exception of a few places in Ghana and Morocco.
The eastern coast of Africa from Kenya and all the way south including South Africa has some very good beaches and well developed beach resorts. These beaches are very romantic, and offer many activities, not only in respect of watersports such as swimming, snorkeling and diving, but also for experiencing unique marine life like whales and dolphins. If you want a few days away from the beach, there are plenty of opportunities to go on a safari and see some of the African wildlife. In fact, usually a beach holiday in eastern Africa is always combined with a safari and visa versa.
South Africa is a great beach and seaside destination with miles and miles of coastline and beautiful white, sandy beaches. Seaside towns and resorts are popular amongst locals and visitors and are found along the length of South Africa's coastline from the waters of the warm Indian Ocean on the east coast to the cooler waters of the Atlantic on the west coast.
Mozambique is fast becoming one of southern Africa's premier beach destinations. And for good reason too. Its spectacular 2500km coastline plays host to beaches of indescribable beauty, white silky sands, tropical warm waters and an array of fishing communities. Parts of it are still off the beaten track - and it does offer the opportunity to lounge on secluded beaches with no people or buildings in sight.
Every list of Africa's best beaches should include The Seychelles, Zanzibar and Mauritius. These islands in the Indian Ocean are home to literally dozens of picture-perfect beaches.
