Gabon is located on the Atlantic coast of Western/Central Africa. The total area of Gabon is 267,745 sq. km. (103,347 sq. mi.), and the population around 1.5 million. Gabon has a lot of natural resources, this together with foreign investments, and the small population, has helped making Gabon one of the wealthiest countries in Africa. The largest city, and the capital is Libreville, with a population of around 600,000. The city is a port on the Komo River, near the Atlantic Ocean.

Gabon has an equatorial climate with an extensive system of rainforests covering 85% of the country. Gabon is noted for its efforts to preserve the natural environment, more than 11% of the nation's territory has been nominated National Park, probably the largest area of nature parks in the world. Up to 20 percent of Gabon's plant species are found nowhere else in the world; there are more than 60,000 forest elephants and Gabon is home to more than 700 species of birds, 70 species of reptiles, 100 species of amphibians, and an estimated 190 mammal species, including large numbers of lowland gorillas and chimpanzees. Gabon's largest river is the Ogooué, which is 1,200 kilometers long.

Tourist facilities in Gabon are limited, and the yearly number of tourists low. This is mainly due to lack of infrastructure. Gabon's tourist attractions include fine beaches, ocean and inland fishing, scenic sites, such as the falls on the Ogooué River and the Crystal Mountains. In addition are the national parks with some amazing wildlife. Among the best known national parks are Lope National Park, where lowland gorillas can be seen, Wonga-Wongue and Moukalaba national parks.

Libreville Leon M'ba International Airport (LBV) is the largest airport in Gabon and is located around 11 kilometers (7 mi) north of the city. There are direct flights from Paris to Libreville, and also scheduled flights from several African countries, such as South AfricaEthiopia and Cameroon.

The climate in Gabon is always hot and humid. During the months June to September, the temperatures cool down to around 20-25C.
