Ghana is a very friendly country, ideal for first time travellers to Western Africa, the people are generally very helpful and welcoming.

Ghana is a country located on the Golf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean, only a few degrees north of equator, therefore giving it a warm climate. The total area of Ghana is 238,535 sq. km. (92,098 sq. mi.), and it has a population of about 23 million. The largest city, and the capital, is Accra with an estimated population of about 1.7 million. Among the attractions in Accra  are: the Makola Market, a very interesting and picturesque open market; The National Museum and Accra Handicraft Market. There is a wide range of hotels in Accra, restaurants and nightclubs.

Currently Ghana is also a very safe and stable country with relatively low crime levels, compared to other West African countries. It is though always advisable to take sensible precautions. Tourism is Ghana's third largest foreign exchange earner after gold and cocoa, and the tourist industry is said to have a growth rate second only to South Africa and Namibia. Some of the favorite destinations for tourists wanting a beach holiday are: Labada Pleasure Beach 8 kilometers east of Accra, Coco Beach also near Accra, Kokrobrite 30 kilometers east of Accra and one of the most popular among tourists, Ada Beach 100 kilometers east of Accra, Cocolco Beach and Alaska Beach. Ghana also has several natural parks, where many different animals can be seen.

Kotoka International Airport (ACC) at Accra is where all international flights go to and from. Several airlines flies non-stop from New York to Accra up to four times a week, there are also direct flights to and from many major destinations in Europe as well as the rest of Africa and the Middle East. All visitors to Ghana must have a valid passport and a visa, except nationals of any member country of ECOWAS. Ghana missions and embassies are authorized to issue visas to all classes of visitors destined for Ghana. Allow at least 2 weeks before the visit to get a visa.

The climate in Ghana is tropical with warm temperatures year round. The eastern coastal belt is warm and comparatively dry, the southwest corner is hot and humid and the north hot and dry. The south of Ghana experiences two rainy seasons annually, from March to June, and from August to November. Usually the rain does not prevent anyone from outdoor activities.
