At the other end of the scale, 1 star stands for fair to good; modest, clean, comfortable and functional. Star gradings are displayed on most advertising material and at hotel entrances. Participation by hotels is voluntary. Star-graded establishments undergo annual quality checks to ensure that standards are maintained.
