Uganda

Uganda tourism is becoming more and more popular, and is home to one of the most diverse and concentrated ranges of African fauna, including the highly endangered mountain gorilla.

Enter "Uganda" or your destination in Uganda + what you want to search for (hotels, package tours, flights, safaris etc.) to find what you are looking for:

Uganda is a landlocked country, bordered on the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the north by Sudan, on the east by Kenya and on the south by Tanzania and Rwanda. The country, which lies across equator, is divided into three main areas: swampy lowlands, a fertile plateau with wooded hills and a desert region. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria. The total area of Uganda is 236,000 sq. km. (91,130 sq. miles) and is home to one of the most diverse and concentrated ranges of African fauna, including the highly endangered mountain gorilla and the endangered common chimpanzee. The total population of Uganda is around 31 million people.

Uganda tourism is becoming more and more popular as the country has a wide range of accommodation provisions for the tourists along with numerous tourist destinations and attractions which include national parks, islands cities and wildlife safaris. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the primary gorilla tracking location with four habituated gorilla troops. In Mgahinga Gorilla National Park there is only one troop of gorillas, and since this park crosses the border to Rwanda as well as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it is not always possible to track the gorillas. A total of 30 tourists a day are allowed into the two parks to track the gorillas, this is to disturb the gorillas as little as possible, in all there are less than 700 individuals left.

Kibale Forest National Park near the town of Fort Portal is famed for chimpanzee tracking and highly recommended. Other interesting national parks include Kabelaga National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, Lake Mburo National Pare, Murchison Falls National Park and Rwenzori National Park, which is a mountain range in south-west Uganda bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is 120 km. long and 48 km. wide with its highest peak at Mt. Stanley (5,109 meters).

Kampala is the capital city of Uganda, and with a population of over 1.2 million the largest city in Uganda. Kampala is not really a tourist destination, although it is considered safe enough, but there is not a lot to see. The market in Kampala is though worth a visit and also the Tombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi outside Kampala. The tombs are a world heritage site and to visit is a great way to spend a day. Entebbe is built around the shores of Lake Victoria and is primarily active as the location of Uganda's only international airport. Entebbe is about one hours drive away from Kampala. Entebbe offers a relaxed stopover alternative to Kampala on your way into or out of the country by airplane, as the air is clean, the streets are safe to walk, and the old colonial gardens and parks with the lake in the background make for a serene atmosphere.

Uganda is known for its fine, tropical weather. Uganda is on the sunny side most of the year, especially in the central region. When the expected patterns of rainfall are delayed the rain comes in torrents when it finally comes. The main factor that determines you visit will be the rainfall patterns. In the southern part of the country, April is the rainiest month. The rain stretch up to May, with another rainy season in October to November.
