Angola is bordered by Namibia, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and has a 1,650 kilometers long coastline with the South Atlantic Ocean to the west. The Northern Angolan province of Cabinda is separated from the rest of the country by a strip, about 60 km. (37 mi) wide, of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The total area of Angola is 1,246,700 sq. km. (481,354 sq. mi.), and the population is around 17 million. The larges city, and the capital, is Luanda, located on the Atlantic Ocean coast. Luanda has a population of around 8.8 million. 

Angola's 25 year long civil war ended in 2006, but has left its people among the continent's poorest. A huge effort is now being done to rebuild the infrastructure and the economy and it is now one of the farstest growing economy in the world. The capital,  Luanda, is also undergoing a major reconstruction, with many developments taking place.

There is a serious shortage of accommodation in Angola, and the tourism has not yet been developed, but the country has significant unspoiled landscapes and tourist attractions, so once the needed infrastructure (hotels, roads etc.) has been rebuilt, Angola will certainly be attractive for tourism. Among the significant natural attractions the following should be mentioned: the Calandula waterfalls on the river Lucala; the beautiful natural scenery such as the Bíe plateau, the rocky area of Pungo Andongo, the desert to the south near the border with Namibia, and the Atlantic coastline of 1.650 kilometers, where river have brought sediments from the high plateaus to form numerous small islands, bays and sandbanks and where excellent beaches can be found.

Mussula Island is a beautiful extension of land located in the south of the capital, Luanda. It is known for its natural beauty, and is one of the best known tourist attractions in Luanda. There are great beaches, fishermen and great restaurants. Other attractions in Luanda are the Benfica Market where you can by handicrafts and souvenirs, the Ilha de Luanda for seaside dining and bars, Kissama National Park for animal and bird watching, and the Kwanza River.

Luanda-4-de-Fevereiro International Airport is located 4 kilometers outside Luanda. The airport mostly has air traffic to and from other African countries, primarily South Africa. There are a few weekly direct flights to and from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and to and from the United States. All nationals must get a visa prior to arrival. It is not possible to obtain a visa upon arrival. Your passport must be valid for at least another 6 months and contain two blank pages. You furthermore need an international vaccination certificate, showing yellow fever vaccination within the last 10 years, and finally you need a letter of invitation from a private individual, organization or company stating that they will take responsibility for your stay.
