Cameroon is known in tourist descriptions as "Africa in miniature" because of its geological and cultural diversity.

Enter "Cameroon" or your destination in Cameroon + what you want to search for (hotels, flights, beach holidays, package tours etc) to find what you are looking for:

Cameroon has a 400 kilometer long coastline towards the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. The total area is 475,442 sq. km. (183,569 sq. mi.), and the population is around 18 million. Cameroon is known in tourist descriptions as "Africa in miniature" because of its geological and cultural diversity. Natural features include beaches, deserts, mountains, rainforest and savannas. The capital of Cameroon is Yaoundé, it is located in the center of the country, and is the second largest city with a population of around 1.45 million. The largest city in Cameroon is Douala, located by the coast and home to Cameroon's largest port and its major airport. The total population is more than 2 million.

Although Cameroon enjoys a high degree of political and social stability compared with most other African nations, and although Cameroon has a lot to offer foreign visitors, the tourist industry in Cameroon is relatively minor, but steadily growing. The north of the country is the country's main tourist area, with several wildlife reserves including Waza National Park, the largest and best run, where you can see a large variety of animals. There are good accommodation facilities in the area.

In the coastal area there are some nice beaches, the two main beach resorts are Kribi and Limbe. Kribi is located some 80 kilometer south of Douala, it is primarily a French speaking town with white-sand beaches. Limbe is located close to Douala and is primarily English speaking, the beaches have black, volcanic sand, and are best a little outside of town. To the east there is one of the largest amounts of rain forest in the world, and visitors may among other animals see chimpanzees, gorillas and elephants. Unfortunately the tourist oriented infrastructure is very poor, so only a few tourists visit this area.

Several European countries have scheduled flights to and from Cameroon, also African countries connects to Cameroon by scheduled flights. The two major international airports are Yaoundé Nsimalan International Airport near the capital Yaoundé, and Douala Airport near Douala. You need a valid passport and a visa to enter Cameroon. To get the visa you should contact the nearest Cameroon embassy or consulate, and remember to allow plenty of time to get the visa issued. Make sure to investigate vaccination requirements when planning your visit to Cameroon; you must have a valid yellow fewer vaccination even if you are only visiting in transit.

Cameroon has a tropical climate which varies from equatorial in the south to desert-like in the far north. The north has a wet season between April and September, the rest of the year is dry. The equatorial south has two wet seasons and two dry seasons. The wet seasons are between March and June and the great wet season between August and November. The remaining periods are the dry seasons.
