An African safari is an amazing travel experience. The diverse wildlife and stunning scenery make South Africa one of the most perfect safari locations.  To the northeast of South Africa is the Kruger National Park where the bush harbors the "Big Five" animals to see (the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino) as well as many other fascinating animals and birds. The Kruger National Park is not the only place where you can go on a safari holiday in South Africa, athough it is the best known. There are many privately owned game reserves where you can stay and go on game drives to watch the wild life, like for instance the Welgevonden Game Reserve.

Accommodation is usually in self contained rooms or bungalows and most lodges have a swimming pool for relaxation in between your game drives. Tented Lodges are a blend of canvas tents combined with permanent structure, offering the adventure of camping with the facilities of a lodge. Tented lodges are usually open throughout the year. Bush Camps can either be permanent or seasonal, depending on location, they are usually more intimate than lodges.

When you plan for your safari, you should investigate not only the weather situation at different times of the year, but also the animal seasons, for instance annual migrations etc.

Among other places in Africa to go on a safari holiday, the best and most popular places are: Serengeti in Tanzania, Samburu National Park and Masai Mara in Kenya, Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park in Botswana, Hwange National Park and Mana Pools in Zimbabwe and Etosha National Park in Namibia. Also in Zambia and Mozambique there are excellent places for a safari holiday.
